Syntax Notation One (ASN.1) is a generic notation for specifying data types and values, especially those that should be transferred via some communication medium. ASN.1 is widely utilized in telecommunication industry for the purpose of protocol specification and has been standardized by ITU-T in Recommendation X.680.
